One big project for three ambitious goals.
Our idea is to support the local community by providing them with a comfortable and safe community centre with a special focus on children and their future by providing them with care and a real chance of education.
Thanks to the generous efforts of artist friends from all over the world, the Church of the Angels will be a place of art and beauty. The homes of all contributors will welcome the unique and colourful tiles as well, all numbered art works depicting your very own angel, reminding you of your generous contribution. The funds raised will also be used for the creation of a cultural centre with its art training school, an amphitheatre and a Madi art museum.
Inspired by a common practice until 1200, the church was dedicated to angels, those angels who protect children. Children in turn are a clear tribute to the Catholic religion and the Virgin Mary. One small, but immense, act of humanity that is worth three. A true and concrete gesture to meet the basic needs of the population of Salta and to pay homage to art as an absolute value.
It was during a humanitarian mission in Argentina that Daniele Crippa discovered the province of Salta. Situated in the north-east of the country, in a rural area, poor and dignified, children have had the good fortune and the bad fortune to be born here. The place is amazing, however, unable to offer them an adequate education and therefore, in a word, 'a future'.
Thanks to a fortunate acquaintance with the provincial archbishop of Salta, Mario Antonio Carniello, we were able to give life to a dream we had cultivated together, namely the construction of the 'Iglesia de los Ángeles' in Candelaria, a few kilometres east of the provincial capital.
The church has been dedicated to the Virgin Mary with a special thought for children and angels, angels who cease to be invisible helpers, but on the contrary can be admired at all times.
The interior of the church will be decorated with 500 (five hundred) designer tiles. Each tile will depict an angel as each of our artist friends, supporters of the cause, wishes to interpret it.
The walls of the church have already begun to fill with fluttering coloured creatures, each of which, on its own, deserves our enchanted gaze.
Each of these tiles will be replicated in a limited edition for this crowdfunding. Your tile will be your angel, it will accompany you, embellish and guard your home, reminding you that you have an angel and that you yourself are a wing of that angel, because with your offer you will have contributed not only to the completion of the church, but also to the construction of an amphitheatre, an art school and a museum. A great gesture for you, from you, for the future of the wonderful children of Salta.
In recent decades, a series of economic crises have led the Argentine economy into recession. In 2018, inflation exceeded 50% and the poverty rate rose to a staggering 35%.
Historically poor, Argentina's indigenous communities have been particularly affected by this condition, finding themselves in an even more precarious situation than before.
The mortality rate has also risen sharply in the Salta area, where every day local families struggle not only to cope with a lack of money and malnutrition, but also to combat worsening hygiene and sanitary conditions.
Even before the pandemic, several emergencies were recorded in Salta at the beginning of 2020, due to the lack of water or pollution of natural sources, with easily imaginable consequences on the population's health.
In particular, few data are reported here to better understand the extent of the phenomenon:
of the population lives on less than $ 1 a day (International Library of Congress, 2020)
UNICEF estimates that the Covid-19 pandemic will increase the number of destitute children in Argentina by over 7 million, and 400,000 children are projected to fall into extreme poverty, meaning their basic food needs will not be covered.
of children in Argentina will live in poverty after the pandemic, including over 2 million children in extreme poverty (UNICEF Argentina, 2020)
Child labor is on the rise in Argentina, largely due to the economic situation and the prevalence of child poverty. An increasing number of children under the age of 14 are victims of economic exploitation and child labor; this phenomenon is particularly frequent in the rural areas of the country.
The church is located in Candelaria, in the region of Salta. This city in the north-east of Argentina is very important Catholicism, home to one of the oldest cathedrals dedicated to the Marian cult, the Virgin del Milagro and a destination for local and international pilgrims. It is said that in 1692 the Virgin performed the miracle of ending the earthquake that was destroying the city.
The immaculate white Church will be internally decorated with no less than 1840 angels painted by some of the world's best artists. The angels born of their sensibility will be depicted through a polychrome covering applied to the entire inner perimeter of the walls of this unique place of worship. The work thus created by the artists' inspiration will become the international logo of the Church of the Angels. The yearly celebrations of the Virgin's miracle take place from 6 to 15 September, when thousands of pilgrims arrive in the city and Salta is decorated with floral decorations in honour of the Virgin Mary. Inhabitants of the nearby mountains descend on the city, laden with votive offerings and with their bodies covered in feathers from condor wings. They look like angels from the mountains and their procession towards the city is incredibly impressive. Their ritual is a tradition derived from ancient pagan beliefs. The condor is the highest flying bird, closer than any other to the divine.
Set off from the Reggia di Monza in December-January 2017 together with the first prestigious volume embellished with a text by Pope Francis and subsequently exhibited in Como, Siena and Argentina, the first 500 angels painted by Artists are already flying around the world.
More than 500 artists from all over the world are participating in this act of faith. They have created painted and signed tiles to be given in exchange for your donation. The tiles you will be given are unique pieces (with an equally unique serial number); the original copy will be displayed in the Church of the Angels to commemorate your donation.
Through this campaign you have the opportunity to contribute to the fundraising that makes this humanitarian, artistic and religious project possible. Thanks to the funds raised we will achieve our objectives, giving priority to supporting the children of Salta, providing protection and education.
Now it’s up to you.
Below we present the different possibilities of contributing to the project. You can choose the amount of your contribution, bearing in mind that each donation and each purchase will help us achieve our goal.
If you are not interested, please forward this project to your friends: we need all the help we can get.
Please help provide the children of Salta with opportunities for their future.
We are determined that you will receive your perk without any hiccups or delivery problems. Parcels sent to the UK, USA and Europe will be sent using our regular and reliable service where possible, although larger parcels (perks with add-ons) will be sent with tracked shipping. All parcels sent to the rest of the world will be sent with tracked shipping.
Due to the logistical complications caused by the coronavirus, some countries are continuing to apply surcharges to receive international deliveries. This is why shipping prices may seem slightly higher for some backers than others, or in comparison to campaigns carried out at other times.
